I got this picture from the Sandals website... but this is the part of the resort we stayed in.
Hunter and I have been married for almost a year now! [wow, time flies] Call me crazy, but I really miss wedding planning! However, there was nothing like it being over and heading to relax on our honeymoon!
Where | We knew that we wanted something all-inclusive so that we would have very little to worry about for our honeymoon week. It did not take long for us to choose Sandals LaSource Grenada. It is the newest resort in the Sandals collection and had great reviews!
Getting There | This was another deciding factor for us. The airport is maybe a five minute drive away! If you're concerned about the airport and planes interrupting your relaxing time, don't be. You would never know the airport was so close.
Room | We stayed in the Italian Village in one of the butler suites. Sandals Grenada was not as "busy" as some of the other locations seem to be, so I would say that the butler suite was not necessary... but it was definitely a nice touch. They brought us snacks every afternoon, brought us cocktails at the beach, made all of our reservations for us and were there to answer any questions! [Literally... they give you a little cell phone to call them at any time] Our favorite butler was Chanel. She is the sweetest lady I've ever met and gave us some great tips for our stay!
Our Stay |
Monday: We chose to leave for our honeymoon on the Monday after our wedding. I'm so glad we did this! It was nice having Sunday to relax and get to spend time together. [and do some last minute packing] The downside to this was that our flight didn't get in until late Monday night. We got into our room and all settled by around 9pm.
Tuesday: The next day we had breakfast at Le Jardinier. Holy moly, this place was cute! I had the Saltfish [a local favorite] and Hunter had the Smoked Salmon Benedict. Add in some mimosas and we were happy campers. We relaxed on the beach  all day. That night we had dinner at Butch's Chophouse. [this was our favorite place] Butch's had the romantic lighting going on and the food was great. I had the surf and turf and Hunter had the rib-eye. We finished the night watching the Rockets game at Neptune's [they were in the finals at the time].
Wednesday: We had to be up early to go on our river tubing excursion, so Chanel brought us breakfast in bed on this day. We left and took a very winding road up to the top on a mountain on the island and went tubing. It hadn't rained much at the time we were there so the tubing trip was pretty short. But fun! We got back and lounged by the pool for the rest of the day. This was the magical day I discovered Dino's Pizzeria. [if you know me, you know I love pizza - and this was some of the best!] We ate at Kimono's for dinner. I wasn't looking forward to this at first since we can always go to a hibachi place back home, but I'm glad we went because we got to meet some of the other couples at the resort and we had a lot of fun.
Thursday: Ohhh Thursday... you were not very nice to us. We went deep sea fishing. We paid for half of a day and only lasted less than an hour. We both got sick. It was bad and I'll leave it at that. But it did give us a funny story to tell. [LOL!] We grabbed pizza and walked [ran] back to our room to nap. We had sushi at Soy for dinner and dessert at CafĂ© de Paris. Grenada is known as the spice island, which made for some YUMMY ice creams.
Friday: Friday we did the "pilot your own boat" excursion and it was a lottt of fun! [and a little scary because of Hunter's crazy driving] You drive these little inflatable motorboats out to the underwater sculpture garden and snorkel for a bit. Really cool! Then you drive over to a private coral reef. That night there was a beach party at the resort with an extravagant buffet, people dancing on stilts and yummy drinks served in coconuts. [see picture above]
Saturday: We ate breakfast at Le Jardinier again. I had the Ham and Cheese Waffles and Hunter stuck with the Smoked Salmon Benedict again. Yum! We lounged by the pool for the rest of the day and had dinner at Butch's that night. [I told you that place was our favorite :)]
Sunday: Sunday was my favorite day. We had spent all week doing all sorts of fun things and this was our day to soak up the last day of our honeymoon together. We went to the beach and just relaxed ALL day. That night we had a private dinner on the beach. [the picture above with me in the coral dress] It was the best night. Such a perfect way to end a perfect week.
It's funny how quickly your wedding and honeymoon pass. And then they're just memories. But the best memories! We had SO much fun in Grenada. If we went back I would venture outside of the resort a little more. There is a market that we really wanted to go to that is supposed to be pretty neat. There are waterfalls and spice factories that looked fun too. But for a honeymoon, what we did was perfect. We were exhausted from the wedding weekend and really enjoyed just lounging around and not doing a whole lot of anything! Isn't that what beaches are best for anyway? I mean there's a reason "beach bum" is a real term. Where did you go or where are you planning to go for your honeymoon?
